Rev. SAECVLI F-ELICITAS / P - R / R T Shield inscribed AVG set on cippus set on square base. RIC -, cf. 162 (cippus without base). Ramskold in review (Numismatic Chronicle), fig 19F. Extremely rare and of great interest. Slightly rough and with minor deposits
, otherwise, about very fine.
From the collection of Dr. L. Ramskold, formed since 1969.
This piece is one of the great rarities in the Ramskold Collection. The unique reverse is known from a single die, seen also on the double die matched example held in the KHM, Vienna, on a very poor example on WikiMoneda, and on an undescribed type in Madrid. The use of this reverse for a bronze coin is unique, however, and other occurrences are restricted to silver donatives from western mints, depicted by Ramskold (in review, fig. 19).
